The Károly Boulevard regeneration project focused on calming the traffic and enlarging the pedestrian areas in a location that used to be dominated by traffic. Correspondingly, inter-district connections have been re-established and improved significantly through the help of a unique, urban scale green element: the central alley with geometric, trimmed trees. The box head trees have been planted in pairs between the double rails of tram no. 47 and 49.
This design created an 8 meters wide representative green corridor between Dohány Street and Deák Square. Vertical water features have been placed under the double alley, at regular intervals. The water columns raise to different heights and are highlighted with exciting night-time illuminations, enhancing the elegance of the green.
In addition, the geometry and the composition of the design is based on a people - centred and urban ecology focused approach: the extension of pedestrian areas and the added green surfaces created a space that has a prominent ecological importance too. The tree alleys enhance the green corridor character; their climate modifying effect is a positive change not only for the Boulevard, but also for the urban environment.
